PFA South Florida Annual Oratorical Scholarship Competition

The PFASF Oratorical Scholarship Competition is an exciting opportunity for graduating seniors in a Fire Rescue Explorers or Cadets program. This oratorical competition provides a platform for these students to showcase their public speaking skills, and encourages them to think critically and share their views on important issues related to firefighting and public safety; all while competing for a scholarship to be used to cover tuition, books, and other educational expenses in their pursuit of becoming a firefighter.

The scholarships range from:

  • First Place:         $2,500
  • Second Place:    $1,500
  • Third Place:        $1,000
To qualify, the student must be in need of financial assistance and have shown exemplary service to their post by demonstrating academic excellence, community involvement, and a commitment to making a positive difference in their community.

The contestants are judged on a number of criteria, including their delivery, organization, use of language, and relevance to the topic. The judges are typically members of the firefighting community, including firefighters, fire chiefs, and other public safety officials.

In addition to the financial support, recipients of the PFA South Florida scholarships also receive mentoring and coaching from members of the Professional Firefighters Association of South Florida, to support them through their journey in fire service.
